Supporting Independent Artists
While many music lovers know much of this already, for those that don't, we feel it's important to fill you in on the best ways to support independent artists. The fact is that streaming platforms just don't pay much. Currently Spotify pays the least of all the major platforms at $.0029 per stream so it takes around 400 streams to make a single dollar. To make matters worse, Spotify doesn't pay artists anything at all until the song gets over 1000 streams. Honestly, the only reason most independent artists are on Spotify at all is because you are and we want people to hear our music.
So what can you do to help? Buying music directly from artists if you like it is the a great way to show support (on their website or BandCamp etc.). Buying merch if they have it is also very much appreciated. Attending live shows is another helpful way to get behind an artist you enjoy. If you want to stream and subscribe to more than one service, choose a better paying one. The major services in order from best paying to worst are: Qobuz, Tidal, Amazon, Deezer, Apple and Spotify. Even at second to last, Apple pays almost three times what Spotify does.
Thanks for reading and please know that we truly appreciate all the ways you choose to support us. Happy listening!
